Welcome to my blog! At the moment there isn't a great deal to say as I haven't started my adventures yet, but please keep checking and I will do my best to keep it updated.
I am writing this blog to let everyone back home in the UK know what I am getting up and to reassure them I am still alive! :D For those of you who don't know I am heading to Bird Island (off South Georgia), Antarctica at the end of October for 16 months working as a zoological field assistant specialising in albatross. Most of the people I've told about it think I'm a bit crazy (especially as I don't get to come home, or leave the island for the whole 16 months), but working with birds is what I have always wanted to do, and where better than in such a pristine environment as Antarctica!
Before going south I have two months of training in Cambridge to learn all sorts of skills including; dentistry, sewing up wounds, how to get out of a crevasse if you fall in (not that there are any on Bird Island), navigating in blizzards and sea survival to name but a few. Hopefully I'll get a bit of time of to come and see lots of friends and family before the journey south.
